STEEL FABRICATION FAQ

Straight answers about our certifications, capabilities, and process — for general contractors, DOT contractors, and project owners evaluating Midstate Welding.

AISC certification is a third-party-audited quality management credential from the American Institute of Steel Construction. It verifies that a fabricator's procedures, personnel qualifications, equipment calibration, and documentation meet AISC standards — it is not self-certified. Midstate Welding holds both AISC Certified Fabricator (AISC 207) and AISC Simple Bridge Certified (AISC 206) credentials, audited by AISC's Quality Management Company.

Midstate Welding is located in Clinton, Mississippi (39056), approximately 15 miles west of Jackson. Our 20,000 sq ft fabrication shop serves the Southeast USA — including Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, and Florida — with nationwide shipping available for projects outside the region.

Midstate Welding fabricates structural steel for commercial and industrial buildings, AISC Simple Bridge Certified bridge components for DOT and infrastructure projects, industrial structures (pipe racks, platforms, mezzanines, equipment supports), and miscellaneous metals (stairs, handrails, ladders, grating, embeds, lintels). We also provide connection design, detailing, and pre-construction services.

We weld to AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code – Steel) for building work and AWS D1.5 (Bridge Welding Code) for bridge projects. Structural material is ordered to ASTM A36, A572 Gr50, and A992. Bridge steel is ordered to ASTM A709 / AASHTO M270. All welders are qualified per AWS with current Welder Performance Qualifications, and every weld procedure is backed by a written WPS and PQR.

AISC Simple Bridge certification (AISC 206) is a specialized credential for fabricators of simple-span steel bridges. It requires additional quality management controls beyond standard building fabrication, including AASHTO M270-certified material, AWS D1.5 bridge welding procedures, and enhanced material traceability. Midstate Welding is AISC Simple Bridge Certified and fabricates bridge girders, bracing, and DOT-grade components.

Midstate Welding was founded in 2004 in Clinton, Mississippi. The company has operated for over 20 years and is currently co-owned by Tim Presson and Tyler James. We are an AISC Certified fabricator built on faith, hard work, and integrity.

Every project ships with a documentation package that includes certified mill test reports (MTRs) for all structural material, approved shop drawings, weld procedure specifications (WPS), welder qualification records, NDT reports where required, final dimensional inspection records, shipping documents and piece mark lists, and coating application records. Bridge projects include enhanced heat-number traceability documentation.
